LSRE – LCM (Laboratory of Separation and Reaction Engineering – Laboratory of Catalysis and Materials), is a chemical engineering investigation unit that was created through the amalgamation of two research units in 2021.

The LSRE and LCM entities were previously associated through the LSRE-LCM Associated Laboratory. The main headquarters of this research unit is located in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the FEUP – Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto), which also serves as the managing institution.

LSRE-LCM also operates an external branch at the Instituto Politécnico de Leiria IPL (Polytechnic Institute of Leiria). LSRE-LCM’s activities encompass a wide range of expertise levels, from fundamental research to the development of industrial products and processes. This multidisciplinary approach integrates knowledge and contributions from different fields, including separation and reaction processes, product engineering, catalysis, carbon materials, thermodynamics, and environmental engineering. A key focus of LSRE-LCM is the training of highly skilled researchers and technicians through post-graduate and post-doctoral programmes.

The LSRE-LCM unit aligns with the Horizon Europe vision by promoting innovation with a technological, economic and social impact. This involves developing and implementing innovative technological solutions that foster sustainable convergence across Europe, strengthening their economic competitiveness and enhancing social and territorial cohesion. Within this framework, LSRE-LCM also aims to contribute to Portugal’s sustainable development, particularly in the northern region, in accordance with the PT2030 and N2030 goals. LSRE-LCM collaborates with national and international partners to develop new technologies aimed at improving the performance and efficiency of the chemical industry, while minimising environmental impact and upholding social responsibility.
