Centro Monitorização e Interpretação Ambiental – CMIA

The Municipality of Viana do Castelo has been assigned the legal and strategic responsibility for territorial planning, zoning and management, including the management of the hydrographic basin under its Environmental and Climate Change Department.

The municipality has teams dedicated to public awareness and environmental education, including the CMIA (Environmental Monitoring and Interpretation Centre) and the Centro de Mar (Sea Centre), which is housed on the Gil Eannes hospital-ship. These teams have developed various educational projects, with a particular emphasis on the “Escuela de la Naturaleza” (Nature School), which has been offering educational programmes since 2009. They have created a variety of educational and informative resources that are available in different formats (travelling exhibitions, guides, educational catalogues, videos, etc.).
